Who Are They Trying to Fool?

I've been driving since 2005 and have owned 2 cars since, the latest being an Audi A4 which is a delight to drive.  Truth be told, I do love to drive and sometimes I resent the fact that Singapore is so small.  It really doesn't take very long to drive anywhere for anything in this island state.  Still, I managed to chalk up 30 over thousand km since my wife and I bought the car in October 2012.  I guess the fact that we drive everywhere to find good food has something to do with it.  When I got my first car, a Ford Focus, I was a newly minted driver eager to taste the thrills of driving.  And I did drive somewhat recklessly with little regard for my passengers.  I remember an ex-colleague from MINDEF telling me that I drive much better now.  She was being nice as it was a tactful comment on my less than nice rides in the past.  Over the years, I've learnt to be more considerate and to consider the comfort of others when they're in the car.  But I still succumbed to the temptation to overtake when a car is driving too slowly or to give other drives the dirty look when I think they're being idiotic.  If not for my Christian faith, which helps me to better myself, I may be worse.

Anyway, I wanted to share about drivers who changed their cars' facades and lights.  There are some who do so to make their cars look better, which I can see why.  But there're others who do so to make their cars look like those of premium brands.  I see many of them with lights, both front and back, that try to pass off as a Mercedes or Beemer.  And I wonder why they bother to spend the time and money to do so.  For those of us who can tell, it's obvious theirs is not a German marque.  It doesn't take more than a second look for the initiated to see that it's a decepticon.  So we're not fooled, not by long stretch.  For the uninitiated, they're not interested in cars anyway and they therefore can't be bothered.  Between those who know and can tell and those who aren't interested and can't, there's therefore a lack of admirers of such spruced up cars, hence my question.  But who's to judge why people do the things they do.  We are complex beings and driven by varied emotions, which in this case is vanity.  But the same can be said of those who buy expensive cars, right?  So I'm guilty myself, so I should hold my peace in future.
